MONROE — Brookfield scored two first-period goals within 45 seconds of each other en route to a 10-2 win over Monroe on Friday, Jan. 13. The Stars scored five goals in the first period compared to the Cheesemaker’s one.

“Our biggest issue now is just the kids being ready to play,” head coach Barry Einbeck said. “They [Brookfield] came out fast. I think the speed was more than our kids expected. The intensity of the game was more than they were ready for.”

Easton Dreyfus provided some life at the end of the first period, scoring on an assist from Nathan Ratke.

Like the first period, Brookfield scored early, while a goal from Cash Anderson lifted Monroe in the end. Anderson skated down the ice on a break away but was knocked down near the net. He then kicked the puck in for the score.

“It’s a lift that showed them that, if we do the things we need to do like compete, make our plays, stay within our system, catch pucks, we can play with them,” Einbeck said of the two goals. “That’s what the life came from for a bit, seeing that we can do this. They just need to believe in themselves and trust what we are doing to have success.”

The Cheesemakers limited the Stars to three goals in the third period but were unable to score themselves.

Dreyfus led the offense with two points with one goal and one assist. In net, Xander Obert recorded 43 saves of the 53 shots on goal.

FURY 6, STOUGHTON 2

STOUGHTON — Rock County responded to a one-goal deficit by scoring three goals in the second and third periods for a victory on Friday, Jan. 13.

“This was one of our best games with passing and playing good offense around the net,” head coach Luke Steurer said. “We moved the puck well in the offensive zone to create better opportunities for us to score.”

Claudia Boehlke and Macy Murphy both recorded hat tricks, while Emma Kligora tallied three assists. In net, Jillian Traver allowed just two goals with 13 saves.

In other local hockey, Beloit Memorial split a pair of 7-2 games. The Knights fell to Verona on Thursday, Jan. 12 before rebounding against Viroqua on Saturday, Jan. 14.

In two games, Nathan Fiebig scored four of Beloit’s nine goals. Jayden Piccione, Payton Wahlen, Max Allen and Sam Rowald each recorded two points. In goal, Jameson Flanagan stopped 57 shots.
