MONROE — The Monroe-New Glarus girls’ swimming co-op concluded its home schedule with an 89-79 dual victory over Sauk Prairie on Tuesday, Oct. 4. The team also celebrated parents’ night and breast cancer awareness month.

One parent in particular was specially honored. Sabrina Foley, mother of junior Kristina Foley, currently battles breast cancer. To show their love and support, the team raised $375 dollars through their pink t-shirt fundraiser. However, an anonymous donor covered the entire Heartland Graphics bill, allowing the team to give Sabrina a check for $1,400 instead. At the end of the parents’ recognition, all swimmers and fans wearing pink gathered for a poolside picture.

Monroe-New Glarus had five first-place finishes, three individual and two relays. Megan Chapman, who led the team with 24 points, took first in the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:16.78. Her best split time was 31.61. She also finished first in the 400m freestyle (4:47.87). Delaney Lynch finished behind her in second (5:01.17).

Aside from Chapman, Amelia Geib also took home an individual win in the 100m backstroke (1:14.27). She started off hot with a 36.24 split. Riley Hoesly, who was the second-highest scorer on the team with 20 points, took second in this event with a time of 1:17.21.

Geib swam the first leg of the winning 200m medley relay (2:24.29), followed by Maggie Piper, Piper Faber and Amalia Morrison. With a split of 32.44, Morrison ended the relay with a bang.

In the final event of the evening, Chapman and Hoesly paired with Anna Zentner and Delaney Lynch to win the 400m freestyle relay (4:21.29). Lynch’s splits totaled 1:03.02 for the fasted leg of the relay. She, like Hoesly, also earned 20 points.

The Cheese Knights travel to McFarland for a dual on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
