BLANCHARDVILLE — Pecatonica knocked off Belmont 16-4 on May 31, and then no-hit Southwestern 4-1 on June 1 to advance to the WIAA Division 4 Sectional on June 7 in Muscoda.
The mercy-rule win over Belmont saw the offense get hot while Jameson Johnson took care of business on the mound. The next night, senior ace Hunter Enloe was locked in a pitcher’s dual before a four-run sixth inning laid claim to yet another regional title in baseball for Pecatonica.
Enloe, a lefty, tossed the first five innings for the Vikings, striking out eight without allowing a hit (but four walks). Sophomore righty Tyler McKeon relieved in the top of the sixth and allowed an unearned run in the seventh inning. Overall, he struck out two in two innings of work while giving up a walk and two hit batsmen.
McKeon opened the bottom of the sixth in his usual role as leadoff batter, reaching on an E-6. Elijah Knutson, Bryce Johnsrud and Johnson all reached and scored in the innings. Enloe sacrificed but reached on an error in the frame. There was just one hit in the inning (Knutson).
Max Steele had two hits, while Carson Kurschner had Pecatonica’s only other hit in the game.
In the win over Belmont, Enloe, Johnson, Johnsrud, Knutson and McKeon all had two hits. The Vikings finished with 11 hits, seven walks and three hit batters. Johnson allowed six hits and four earned runs in five innings on the hill.
Up next for Pecatonica is a date at Muscoda on June 7 against host Riverdale at 1:15 p.m. The winner will face either Bangor or Ithaca in the sectional final later that afternoon at about 3:45 p.m. The WIAA state baseball tournament is scheduled for June 14-16 at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute, the home of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, a minor league team of the Milwaukee Brewers.
The D4 semifinals are slated for 8 a.m. on June 15, with the championship at 9 a.m. June 16.
