Orioles overwhelm Panthers

JUDA — Concluding the first round of the Six Rivers East Conference, Argyle swept Juda 3-0. The Orioles grinded out a tough, 20-25 first set before cruising to 25-8 and 25-13 victories in the final two sets.

Kylie Butler and Avari Steiner nearly mirrored each other. The pair had six digs and two aces each. Butler tallied a team-best 14 kills, while Steiner had eight kills. Ava Wiegel distributed the offense with 30 assists. Mya McNett led the team in aces with six.


BARNEVELD 3, BLACK HAWK 0

SOUTH WAYNE — The Eagles maintained its sole possession of the Six Rivers East Conference with a sweep of Black Hawk on Tuesday, Sept. 19. Barneveld won by scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-16.

Maddy Lange led the Warrior offense with four kills, assisted by Mya Milz. At the net, Veronica Cheatham and Milz recorded a block each. At the service line, Peyton Downing and Milz tallied an ace each.


JEFFERSON 3, MONROE 1

JEFFERSON — Despite a 12-kill night from Courtney Hartwig, Monroe fell to Rock Valley Small opponent Jefferson 3-1 on Tuesday, Sept. 19. The Cheesemakers took the second set 25-21 but dropped the others 25-23, 25-18, 25-11.

Hartwig led the offense with 12 kills, followed by Sophie Golembiewski with four and Anastasia Lattin with three. At the service line, Olivia Feller contributed five aces and Addison Bartholf tallied three.


BIG FOOT 3, BRODHEAD 0

WALWORTH — With its loss to Big Foot on Tuesday, the Cardinals and the Chiefs share the top spot in the Rock Valley Large with a 3-1 record. Big Foot swept by scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-23. 

Jaelyn Hilliard led the team in two categories — assists (31) and aces (6). Brynn Riesterer tallied 11 kills, and Allie Dahl dug out 13 attacks.  

In other local volleyball, Waterloo beat New Glarus in five sets. The two teams are now tied for second in the Capitol South Conference behind Marshall, which is 6-0.
