Ever wonder what creates the dazzling colors and booming displays of fireworks? The Senior Resource Center invites curious minds to discover the answers during its next Science Spot program, “Behind the Boom: The Science Behind Fireworks,” on Monday, July 6, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Senior Resource Center.

This fun and interactive program will explore the fascinating science behind fireworks and rockets. Participants will learn how different chemical elements and reactions produce the brilliant reds, blues, greens, and golds that illuminate the night sky during celebrations.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to make their own mini straw rocket and witness small explosions.

Science Spot is designed to make science engaging and accessible for adults who enjoy learning something new in a relaxed, interactive environment. No scientific background is required — just curiosity and a willingness to have fun.

The cost is $5 per person. Space is limited, and advance registration is required. To register or learn more, call the Senior Resource Center at 815-235-9777.
