With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Hazel Kay Ommodt on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the age of 79. She was born on September 14, 1946, the daughter of George and Nellie (Stone) Keller. She passed peacefully at home in Albany, WI surrounded by her loved ones. A woman of extraordinary strength, self-determination, and grace, she lived a life full of simplicity and a love for those who knew her.
Hazel became a member of the Albany community as a young child with her parents and six siblings. She graduated from Albany Schools in the Class of 1964. Her younger brother, Kenny, introduced her to her soulmate, Larry Ommodt, of South Wayne, and they were married on November 7, 1970. Together they had three daughters, Tonya, Krista and Carrie. They were her pride and joy until she was blessed with their three grandchildren, Payton, Kaiya and Kaden Zurfluh.
There was rarely a time you would not see her at an activity or sporting event in the Albany community. She was fiercely dedicated to following her kids, and later her grandkids, in all their endeavors. Her passion and supportive nature made her a beloved grandmother to all who knew her. She was known for her generosity in giving out treats and warm embrace with her special hugs.
When she wasn’t busy supporting extracurricular activities, you could find her working on puzzles, weeding the flower gardens, watching The Wall, playing her scratch-offs, untangling necklaces, playing cards, taking care of the Veteran’s Memorial at the Albany Legion, and taking trips to Tastee Crème. She made the holidays extra joyful because of her love for decorating and making her famous Christmas treats. One of her greatest accomplishments was traveling to all fifty states with Larry and dear friends. Just as importantly, she will be remembered for her love of a daily can of Coke.
Hazel will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Larry Merlin Ommodt; children, Tonya (Daren Dudgeon) Zurfluh, Krista (Marcus Adams) Ommodt and Carrie Ommodt; grandchildren, Payton (Brent) Ritschard, Kaiya (Gage Boegli) Zurfluh and Kaden Zurfluh; sisters, Margaret (Jon) Kauk, Kathy (Walt) Mueller, and Karla (Marlin) Neild; sisters-in-law, JoAnn (Gary) Corbin, Nancy (Dick) Brunner, and Deb (Dave) Neff; many nieces and nephews along with countless special “grandkids” and friends.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, George and Nellie Keller; sister, Sandy Rhyner; brothers, Keith Keller and Kenneth Keller; parents-in-law, Merlin and Opal Ommodt; brothers-in-law, Marlin Neild, Jon Kauk and Gary Corbin; and special grand-dog, Jaxson.
Hazel touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing her. Her selflessness, kindness, warmth, and generous spirit will be remembered forever. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion that lives in all of us.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM on Friday, July 3, 2026 at Albany United Methodist Church with Pastor Beth Staniforth-Seamster officiating. Burial will follow service in Hillcrest Cemetery. A luncheon will be provided following services, at the church.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at the church.
