Merlyn John Miller, 96, died Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Monroe, where he had resided since August, 2024.

He was born at Deaconess Hospital in Monroe on October 13, 1929, the son of John and Clara Hiltbrand Miller. Losing his father at an early age, Merlyn, along with his mother and a hired hand, managed the family farm until he took full ownership in the 1960’s.

He and the former Rosemary Najdowski raised three daughters: Vicki, Cindy, and Corrie on the family farm located on County KS, Juda, Wisconsin. Merlyn farmed the family land until retiring at age 51. Shortly thereafter he and Rosemary built a house and moved to Monroe. He then worked various occupations including landscaping, selling insurance, and selling seed corn for the Renk Seed Company. Merlyn could be found most mornings enjoying coffee with the fellas at McDonald’s. Later in life he enjoyed traveling throughout most of the U.S. states, Switzerland, and France. He spent his winter months in Florida for a number of years before returning permanently to his home in Monroe. In 2023 he moved into Friedensheim Assisted Living in Monroe and then to Pleasant View. Although he discontinued actively farming, Merlyn was always a farmer at heart, paying attention to the weather, crops and prices of fuel.

Merlyn his survived by his daughters, Vicki Miller Share, Monroe, Cindy Miller (Randy Zemlicka) Darlington, Corrie (Kim) Smith, Oregon, Wis.; his grandchildren: April (Alan) Doty, Germantown, Ill.; Adam (Ceren) Share, Michigan; Carly Lund, Darlington, Ian Lund, Pardeeville, Tyler Smith, Monroe, Ashley (Kyle) Speth, and Katie (Ben) Carlson all of Stoughton. His great-grandchildren include: Micah, Zach and Sam Doty, Addy Smith, Hendrix and Aurora Lund, Sullivan Lund, and Hailey and Lucas Speth. He is further survived by a number of nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents; an infant son in 1959; his sister Luan Gilbert; Rosemary in 2004; a granddaughter, Tara Lund in 2016; and a son-in-law Kevin Share in 2020.

A celebration of Merlyn’s life will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Private inurnment will be held in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Juda. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Merlyn’s name for SSM Monroe Hospice Home. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net
