Step back in time and visit the historic Old Stone Hotel, built in 1851 and celebrating its 175th Anniversary in 2026. This former Stagecoach Inn was converted to its present use as the Warren Community Building in 1956.
As part of our celebrations this year, the building will host a Special History Program entitled Revolutionary Illinois: How Our State Shaped Our Nation, and is presented by John Kokoris. This event will be sponsored by the Warren Township Public Library. The program will be held in the Warren Community Building, Saturday, July 18 at 1 p.m. and will be followed by an Ice Cream Social from 2:30-4 p.m.
Learn about the unique history of the Old Stone Hotel and its place in the history of Jo Daviess County by visiting displays in each room of the building. A genuine historic stagecoach will be featured at the event, offering attendees a rare chance to experience and photograph a symbol of early transportation history. When the Old Stone Hotel was built in 1851, it was used as a stagecoach stop until the railroad was built. Guests are welcome to pose alongside this unique piece of history for photos.
The history event is free to attend. There will be a suggested donation of $5 for the Ice Cream Social. The menu consists of ice cream, brownies, lemonade or water.
