MCFARLAND — A three-goal third lifted Monroe over McFarland 5-2 in a Badger Small Conference game on Tuesday, Jan. 23. Prior to the game, the Spartans were tied for second in conference with 12 points. After Tuesday’s contest, McFarland dropped to third, just four points ahead of Monroe.
The Cheesemakers took a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals from Patrick Alt and Brody Goode.
McFarland tied the game with a goal late in the first and second periods.
Wyatt Janecke took advantage of a Spartan cross check, scoring a powerplay goal in the third, which proved to be the game winner. Hans Brandt added on five minutes later, and Cameron Newcomer put the nail in the coffin with an empty netter.
Brandli got the win, stopping 46 of 48 shots on goal. Alt (1G, 1A), Janecke (1G, 1A) and Benjamin Erdley (2A) each tallied two points.
In other local boys hockey action, Madison West defeated Beloit Memorial 12-3.
