Lenwood “Len” Potts

Lenwood “Len” Potts, age 82, of Monroe passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at SSM Health Monroe Hospital with his family by his side. He was born the son of Robert and Pauline (Raether) Potts on July 28, 1943 in Monroe. He was a 1961 graduate of Monroe High School and earned his Mechanic Certification from Madison Vocational School. Len was united in marriage to Sharon Sonnenburg on November 20, 1965 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.

Len proudly served in the US Army National Guard in the 32nd Infantry where he was awarded the Milwaukee Journal Outstanding Achievement Award. After six years of service with the National Guard, Len returned to Monroe and continued working for Kubly Transfer as a mechanic. Kubly Transfer was later acquired by Trucks Incorporated; Len continued working with the new owners in the Parts Department and later as a salesman. In 1978 he became one of three owners of Trucks Incorporated; he served as owner/operator and Vice President for over 40 years.

In his free time Len enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards with friends, and an occasional trip to the casino. He and Sharon enjoyed traveling throughout the US. Len was an avid NASCAR fan, and visited several race tracks during their many trips. They created many fond memories spending winters at their second home in Arizona for 15 years. Above all else, Len cherished his family. He loved spending time with his children and his grandchildren were the light of his life.

Len is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sharon of Monroe; children, Joel Potts of Monroe and Janeen Potts of New York; grandchildren, Owen and Harper Miller; siblings, Kenton “Ken” Potts of Fitchburg and Rhonda (Phil) Stewart of Monroe; brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” (Linda) Sonnenburg; sister-in-law, Ruth (Gary) Johnson; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Raymond and Edna Sonnenburg; sisters-in-law, Marie Potts and Darlene Sonnenburg; and brothers-in-law, Rodney Sonnenburg and Raymond Sonnenburg, Jr.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to dear friend, Duane Lobdell for always being there for Len.
