Joyce M. Smith, of Monroe, died on Monday, July 13 at the age of 97. She was born on June 7, 1929 to Ray Severson and Clara (Anderson) Severson. Joyce attended Browntown grade school and graduated from Monroe High School in 1947. She was united in marriage to William Smith on January 6, 1952. Together they raised a family of four children. Joyce’s working years were spent at Crandall Oil, Green County ASCS and retired from Crop Production Service in Monroe. She was baptized at Jordan Lutheran Church in Browntown, and has been a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe. She was also a past member of the Monroe Country Club, where she served as a past President of the Ladies Auxiliary, Women of the Moose and Son’s of Norway, as she was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. She enjoyed music, dancing, playing golf, traveling and playing cards. She played bridge with the same group of ladies for over sixty years. In retirement, Joyce and Bill enjoyed wintering in Fountain Hills, AZ. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Greg (Karen) Smith, of Lake Barrington, IL, Mary Jo Hasler, Monroe, Kim (Corrie) Smith, Oregon, WI and Jim Smith of Monroe. She is further survived by eight grandchildren Scott (Josh Yates) Smith, Christina (Julia) Smith, Jennifer (Larry) Meyer, Tim (Nicki) Hasler, Andrea (Tyler) Denure, Tyler Smith, Ashley (Kyle) Speth and Katie (Ben) Carlson and fifteen great-grandchildren Brianna, Austin and Abby Meyer, Lennon, Lux, Levi and Lainey Hasler, Camden and Louie Denure, Addisyn Smith, Hailey and Lucas Speth, Jordan, Jackson and Isaiah Smith; sister-in-law Mildred Byrns of Black River Falls and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill in 2014, an infant son in 1954; and son-in-law Fred Hasler in 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Cleo (Conrad) Pilz, Eleanor (Wilbur) Klemm, Darlyne (Claire) Campbell; and brothers, Lorrell and Russell (Helen) Severson.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday July, 17th at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe with Reverend Thickpenny officiating. Burial will follow at Jordan Lutheran Church Cemetery in Browntown.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolences may be sent to the family at: shgfuneralhome.net.
