FORT ATKINSON — The Cheesemakers finished fifth in the nine-team Fort Atkinson Invitational Oct. 16. Badger High School was the meet champion, followed by Waukesha West/Catholic Memorial, then DeForest and Sauk Prairie.
Monroe-New Glarus freshman Mazie Paradis won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:21.92, which was 15 seconds ahead of the next closest competitor. Paradis was third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.62, less than 1.5 seconds behind the champion, and more than 1.5 seconds ahead of DeForest’s Jenna Wills. MNG’s Karley Michels was fifth (1:14.51).
Elsewhere for the Cheesemakers, Riley Hoesly was sixth in the 500-free (5:49.92), Morgan Erstad finished fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.41), and the MNG quartet of Hoesly, Erstad, Paradis and Delaney Lynch took fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay to close out the invite.
Two days earlier, MNG lost to Sauk Prairie in a dual 99-71. The Cheesemakers took first in the 200-yard medley relay (2:00.36). Erstad, Paradis and Hoesly swam the race, along with Delaney Lynch.
Paradis had MNG’s two individual victories, winning the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.90) and 200-IM (2:13.75). Michels (1:14.64) was second in the race. Hoesly was second in the 100-back (1:07.74) and the 100-free (58.77). Lynch was second in the 50-free (26.87).
Up next, MNG was set to host Baraboo for the final home dual of the season on Oct. 19. The Cheesemakers will swim at the UW-Platteville Invitational Oct. 23, then the Badger Conference meet Oct. 30. Sectionals at DeForest are slated for Nov. 6, with the state meet the following week.
