JUDA — Aubrey McCullough’s bunt in the bottom of the seventh inning brought home Phoenix Homan with the winning run and capped a three-run rally to give the Juda-Albany Panthers a 7-6 win over the Monticello-New Glarus Ponies in a Six Rivers Conference game on Tuesday, April 28.
Jubany trailed 6-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. The inning started with a walk to Anna Bartels, followed by a single by Emerson Briggs. Homan doubled to score two runs and tied the game at 6-6. Lexi Eastwood sacrificed Homan to third, setting up McCullough with the game-winning bunt.
Emersen Butts hit a triple and collected three RBIs to lead Jubany. Ryleigh Brown pitch 6.2 innings and allowed five runs, four earned, with four strikeouts. Briggs came on in relief and got the final out.
Heidi Olson pitched 6.1 innings for MNG and allowed seven runs on seven hits, seven walks, and 11 strikeouts. Olson also went 4x4 at the plate and drove in a run and scored a run.
Jubany (7-3-1, 5-3) played at Pecatonica in Six Rivers Conference action scheduled on Friday, May 1. Monticello-Albany (9-2, 6-2) had back-to-back Six Rivers games scheduled with a trip to Potosi-Cassville on Thursday, April 30 and a road game on Friday, May 1 at Argyle-Black Hawk.
Darlington 11, Southwestern 5
Catcher Raynie Norgard went 2x4 and had four RBIs and scored a run to lead the Darlington Redbirds to an 11-5 win over the Southwestern Wildcats in SWAL softball on Tuesday, April 28. The win snapped the Redbirds’ four game losing streak.
Shortstop Maicy Norgard was 3x4 with three RBIs and left fielder Isabelle Winkers collected two hits, an RBI, and scored two runs for the Redbirds.
The game was tied 5-5 when the Redbirds struck for five runs in the fifth inning to pull away. Runs were scored by Winkers, Lilly Ritchie, Alivia Crosby, Sydney Wiegel, and Maicy Norgard.
Wiegel went the distance in the pitching circle allowing five runs, four earned, seven hits, one walk and five strikeouts.
Darlington (3-8, 1-5) was scheduled to host SWAL rival Mineral Point on Thursday, April 30 followed by a home nonconference game against Lancaster on Friday, May 1.
Barneveld 6, Argyle-Black Hawk 1
Kylie Butler went 2x3 with a double and drove in the only run of the game for the Orioles in the first inning as Barneveld defeated Argyle-Black Hawk 6-1 on Tuesday, April 28. Alexis Tregembo also went 2x3 and Sam Kammes ripped a double for ABH.
Argyle-Black Hawk (6-9, 3-5) played at home in a Six Rivers game scheduled on Thursday, April 30 followed by another conference home game on Friday, May 1 against Monticello-New Glarus.
Highland 12, Pecatonica 2 (6 innings)
The Highland Cardinals pulled away with seven runs over the final two innings to secure a 12-2 win in six innings over the Pecatonica Vikings in a Six Rivers Conference softball game on Tuesday, April 28.
Katelynne Jorenby smashed a double and drove in Pec’s only run and Kiaya York got on base three times with a base hit and two walks for the Vikings.
Pecatonica (2-9, 2-6) had a nonconference game on their schedule at Riverdale on Saturday, May 2.
Cambridge 9, Belleville 6
The Belleville Wildcats entered the seventh inning trailing the Cambridge Blue Jays 6-4 but the Blue Jays scored three runs to take a 9-4 lead. Belleville rallied with two runs and fell short 9-6 on Tuesday, April 28 in Capitol South Conference action. It was the Wildcats fourth loss in their last five games
At the plate, Brynn Ennis went 3x3 with a double, an RBI, and scored four runs. Ava Chapman was 2x4 and drove in four runs for the Wildcats. Leonor Ortigosacervantes had two hits, a run scored, and an RBI for Belleville.
Belleville (2-5, 0-2) played at Waterloo in a Capitol South game scheduled on Thursday, April 30 and at home against Columbus on Friday, May 1.
