PATCH GROVE — The Juda Panthers girls basketball team bounced back from a game-one loss in the River Ridge Tournament to record its first win against North Crawford 41-39 on Tuesday, December 27.

The two teams were tied at 19 apiece after the first half, with Ciarrah Davis scoring 10 of Juda’s points. She sank two 3s and had a pair of baskets. Briliey Swedlund also drained a three in addition to four points from Jackie Nusbaum. The final two points came from Lavinia Rufer.

North Crawford was led by Miranda Olson and Alle Chamberlain with eight and six points, respectively. The pair sank two 3s each.

The Panthers had 15 opportunities at the free-throw line in the second half, making just five of those shots. Luckily, the remainder of the offense did enough to secure the win. Nusbaum and Rufer scored five points each, while Davis tallied seven. Marta Escalero drained a 3-pointer, too.

Elizabeth Stovey scored 10 of North Crawford’s 20 points in the second half, with five of them at the charity stripe.

Davis finished the game with a team-high 17 points, followed by Nusbaum with nine. As a team, the Panthers were just 5-for-19 from the free-throw line for 26%. Had they capitalized on these shots more, the game wouldn’t have been nearly as close.

Stovey was the lone player in double figures for North Crawford, tallying 15 points. The next highest scorer was Olson with eight. From the charity stripe, the Trojans were 10-for-18, doing everything they could to win the game at the line.

In the tournament opener, Juda suffered a 33-23 loss to Iowa-Grant. The Panthers had a 17-10 lead at half and never let up.

Seven different players scored for Iowa-Grant, led by Adrianna Jelle with 10 points. Ashley Runde and Briann Kohlenberg scored five points each, while Runde had the Panther’s lone 3-pointer. At the free-throw line, I-G was 6-for-12 for 50%.

Davis led Juda once again, scoring 10 points. The next highest was Nusbaum with five points. The Panthers dealt with shooting struggles, as they were 7-for-16 from the charity stripe.

The Juda boys basketball team was on the road as well for the Dodgeland Classic. In game one, the Panthers lost to host Trojans 56-23. The next day, they lost to Princeton-Green Lake 83-29.
