MONROE — The Monroe high school athletic program recently announced it hired Dustin Huffman as the new baseball coach.
Huffman is a Monroe graduate of 2000, long-time Monroe Middle School P.E. teacher, and community resident.
“Dustin is a great fit for what we do at Monroe High School,” Monroe athletic director Eric Jubeck said. “He understands baseball and program-building, but more importantly he understands people and cares about doing the right thing. He learned a ton during his previous stint as head coach and is using this experience to help shape the program.”
Huffman was Monroe’s head baseball coach for eight seasons, stepping down in 2017 to focus on his family. In the meantime, Dustin remained active in the coaching world — both with middle school basketball and helping to run several community youth sports programs.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead the Monroe High School Baseball program,” Huffman said. “With a strong youth foundation in place, the opportunity to connect the two is an exciting challenge and one that will bring success for years to come. I look forward to building a staff of coaches that exhibit integrity, passion, and knowledge of the game to impart on our student athletes.”
The vacancy was created when former coach and athletic director Jeff Newcomer took another job in Sussex. In 2023, Monroe was 8-18 overall and 0-4 in the Rock Valley-Valley. The Cheesemakers stunned McFarland 7-2 in a WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal before falling to Lakeside Lutheran 7-0.
