Gustafson Six Rivers East POY again

MONROE — Monticello senior Peter Gustafson was named the Six Rivers East Conference Player of the Year, and his coach, Mark Olson, was named the league’s Coach of the Year. The conference awards were announced Feb. 28.

Gustafson led the league in scoring by nearly 11 points per game. He averaged 26.4 each night on the court, and added another 6.8 rebounds per game. He was the league’s co-player of the year a season ago. Joining him on the first-team were Albany senior Clay Hulbert, Barneveld junior Chase Ignatius, Black Hawk junior Clayton Stietz and Pecatonica junior Hunter Enloe.

The second team comprised of Albany freshman Carson Brewer, Argyle senior Connor Carius, Black Hawk senior Thatcher Schliem, Juda junior Aaron Makos and Monticello senior Rudy Wicker.

Named honorable mention were Argyle senior Clay Ritschard, Barneveld senior Trenden Barsness, Black Hawk senior Jexen Stietz and sophomore Lucas Milz, Juda senior Avery Scheaffer, Monticello seniors Owen Ace and Tristin Flanagan, and Pecatonica senior David Tisch and junior Kegun Brunker.

Monticello (17-4, 9-0) won the league title, with Black Hawk (8-9, 6-2) second, followed by Argyle (3-13, 3-3) and Barneveld (4-8, 3-3), Albany (7-15, 4-7), Pecatonica (4-11, 3-6) and Juda (1-11, 1-8).


SWAL Girls All-Conf. announced

Darlington senior Laura Sturtz and junior Staylor Wedig were named to the First Team All-SWAL for their efforts this past basketball season. 

The Redbirds finished 8-4 in league play, which was fourth. Mineral Point, which advanced to the state tournament, won the regular season title with an 11-1 record. Cuba City (9-3) and Fennimore (8-3) finished second and third in the eight-team league.

Cuba City senior Bailey Lutes was named the league’s Player of the Year, while Fennimore head coach Kevin Everson was the coach of the year. 

Mineral Point had three players on the first-team, and two on the honorable mention squad. Cuba City had two first-teamers and an honorable mention pick, as did Fennimore.
