BOSCOBEL — Darlington’s girls cross country team took second place at the SWAL conference championship Oct. 13 at the Ryan Zimpel Memorial Course in Boscobel.
Fennimore won the team title with 49 points, barely ahead of the Redbirds (53). Albany (78) was third, followed by Southwestern-Cuba City-Benton (103), Iowa-Grant (118) and Riverdale (127). Pecatonica-Argyle did not have enough runners to score in the team standings.
Kayci (17:37.8) and Hanna Martensen (19:03.0) of SCCB finished first and second overall. Darlington freshman Raquel Reuter was third (19:49.2), just a half of a second ahead of Fennimore’s Brynlee Nelson.
Darlington runners occupied the 11-14 finishers — all of which collecting all-conference honors, which goes to the top 15 places. Junior Allyson Meyers (21:51.3), sophomore Ashlynn Norgard (21:57.8), senior Morgan Black (22:06.4) and freshman Alexis Murray (22:11.6) all scored for Darlington. Freshmen Alyza Johnson (17th, 45.8) and Addison DePauw (22nd, 23:21.7) also ran for the Redbirds.
Albany was led by sophomore McKenna Broughton (7th, 20:30.5) and freshman Ava Ahnen (21:19.2). Also scoring for the Comets were Kaiya Zurfluh (18th, 22:54.1), Emileigh Dallman (20th, 23:19.7) and Avary Briggs (23:32.2).
Pec-Argyle was led by Emily Zimmerman (36th, 27:20.1), with Allie Godfrey (27:28.1), Sydney Webster (29:11.0) and Norah McCarthy (29:40.6) also running.
Up next is the WIAA Division 3 subsectionals on Oct. 20. Darlington and Pec-Argyle will return to Boscobel. The sectional will be held at Darlington Oct. 24.
Albany is hosting its subsectional at Baertschi Farms on Oct. 20, with the sectional slated for Oct. 24 in Racine, hosted by The Prairie School.
