BRODHEAD — The Cardinals got a much-needed Rock Valley Conference win with a 103-49 victory over Clinton on Friday, Feb. 3. With the win, Brodhead inches closer to the middle of the pack.
Cullen Walker led four players in double figures with 35 points. He went 7-for-8 from the free-throw line with four 3-pointers. Aidyn Vondra followed with 16 points, while Jaxon Dooley scored 15 points. The pair made six 2-pointers with one three, but the difference was Vondra’s free throw. Brody Riese was the fourth Cardinal in double figures with 10 points. Gabe Bockhop was responsible for the final shot from beyond the arc in his nine-point total.
NEW GLARUS 63, CAMBRIDGE 58
CAMBRIDGE — After a 23-point first half, the Knights exploded for 40 points in the second half en route to a Capitol South victory on Friday, Feb. 3.
AC Strok broke out for 25 points, sinking three, 3-pointers. Jack Leonard and Ethan Friedrich chipped in 11 points each with one basket beyond the arc. The Knights shot 77% from the charity stripe with perfect trips from Jack Douma, Max Parman, Lawrence Vasquez and Leonard.
SOUTHWESTERN 59, DARLINGTON 57
HAZEL GREEN — The Wildcats made one extra basket when it counted to hand the No. 4 Redbirds their second loss of the season.
Brady Long led Darlington with 19 points, going 6-for-7 from the charity stripe. Carver Fitzsimons followed with 16 points and a team-best eight rebounds. Will Murray and Reagan Jackson chipped in nine points each.
SAUK PRAIRIE 67, MONROE 40
SAUK PRAIRIE — The Cheesemakers had the lead for just a possession, as the Eagles went on to defeat Monroe in a Badger West Conference game on Friday, Feb. 3.
Sauk Prairie shot better from the floor than Monroe, making six more 3-pointers and three more 2-pointers for a difference of 24 points.
Charlie Wiegel led the offense with 11 points, followed by James Seagreaves and Tucker Markham with 10 points each. Although the Cheesemakers shot 69% from the free-throw line with perfect trips from Ryan Mathiason and Markham, Monroe made just three baskets beyond the arc. George Brukwicki, Markham and Wiegel drained one 3-pointer each.
In other local basketball action, Argyle defeated Shullsburg 57-45 on Thursday, Feb. 2 in preparation for the Six Rivers Crossover event on Friday, Feb. 3.
