DARLINGTON - The Darlington girls track team took advantage of running on their home track to win the Redbird Invite Monday.
The Darlington boys track team tied Lancaster for the championship with 151 points. Albany finished fourth (87.5) ahead of Pecatonica-Argyle (66) and the Monroe was seventh (43.5).
Monroe's Evan Brady won the pole vault with a personal best 11 feet, 9 inches, which was well ahead of Darlington's Mitchell Whalen (11-0), who was second and Albany's Josh Krueger who was third (11-0).
"Tonight the field events seized the opportunity and shone bright," Monroe coach Brian Jefferson said. "Evan Brady had a banner night in the pole vault. Evan has started to put the vault together for us recently and looks to finish the season strong."
Monroe's Garrett Grinnell posted a career best in the triple jump with a distance of 37-10 1/2 to take second.
"It was a great opportunity for a lot of guys to compete at the varsity level and see the benefits of their hard work," Jefferson said. "With the handful of meets he has had he has come a long way."
Albany had the top two runners in the 1,600-meters. Drew Mather won the 1,600 (4:46.80) and Reece Whitehead was second (4:53.23). Albany senior Bryce Hulbert won the shot put (44-8) and senior Tyler Conley finished second in the 800 (2:03.09). T.J. Bump finished second in the 110 high hurdles (:17.0).
Darlington's 3,200 relay team of Alex Erickson, Matt McDaniel, Kent Miehe and Patrick Roche finished first with a time of 8:49.66). Zach Brown finished second in the pole vault (5-10) and Mitchell Langkamp took second in the 100 (:11.81). Mitchell Wedig took second in the 300 hurdles (:45.10) and Tucker Wiegel was second in the long jump (18-7 1/2).
Pecatonica-Argyle's Lucas Stoehr won the 400 (:52.03) and he was third in the 200 (:24.09).
Darlington's 400 relay team took second with a time of 46.50 seconds. The Cheesemakers' 400 relay team of John Becker, Craig Kennison, Sy Calaway and Mitch Koch took third with the time of 49.9 seconds.
The Redbirds' 1,600 relay team finished second (3:38.87) and the 800 relay team took third (1:36.43).
In the girls competition, Darlington's Hannah Huffman won the long jump (14 feet, 7 3/4 inches) and she took second in two events, the 100-meter dash (:13.50) and 400 (1 minute, 2.80 seconds).
The Redbirds won three of the four relays. Huffman teamed with Kara Krahenbuhl, Taryn Evenstad and Chayse Hermanson to win the 400 relay with a time of 53.49 seconds. Pecatonica-Argyle's 400 relay team of Holly Vlasak, Abby Flanagan, Brittany Ziller and Cassie Welch took second (:55.34).
Darlington's Kayla Lange finished first in the 200 (:28.68), Krahenbuhl won the pole vault (8-6), Cassidy Chambers finished first in the high jump (4-10) and Cheyenne Wolfe won the 3,200 (13:19.91).
Darlington's Lisa Kreidler finished first in the 300 hurdles (:51.81) and Hermanson won the triple jump (30-4). Kreidler teamed with Evenstad, Alix Brandt and Elizabeth Mathias to win the 800 relay (1:56.54). Brandt added a second-place finish in the 100 hurdles (:17.65). The Redbirds' 1,600 relay team of Hermanson, Kreidler, Olivia Wedig and Alison Wedig took first in the 1,600 relay (4:22.73).
Pecatonica-Argyle's Kendra Sigg finished second in both the 800 (2:37.20) and the 1,600 (5:42.05). Darlington's Brianna Reichling was second in the shot put (30-0 1/2).
