Clutch hits go missing yet again

MONROE - The Cheesemakers dropped their second Badger South game in three days, 4-1, to Stoughton Thursday.

Monroe starter Logan Wells was roughed up in 2 1/3 innings, giving up three hits, three walks, a hit batsman and all four earned runs.

The Cheesemakers got on the board in the sixth inning as Kris Rieder knocked in Dylan Schwitz. Both Rieder and Schwitz had Monroe's only two hits of the game.

"If we get two hits every game, we're going to struggle," Monroe head coach Dustin Huffman said. "The biggest difference between now and earlier in the season has been our lack of hitting. We were getting those clutch, two-out hits earlier and now we are not getting anything."

Rieder pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief and Mitch Marty added an inning for Monroe on the hill.

The Cheesemakers (5-4, 3-3) will turn around and play McFarland today in a non-conference game.
