Cheese Days Chase draws crowd

MONROE - About 1,000 runners turned out to the downtown Square for the Cheese Days Chase on Saturday.

Matt Barrett won the 5K race with a time of 15 minutes, 5.1 seconds and Patrick Klein finished first in the 10K (31:33).

Thomas Wells finished second in the 5K (15:07.3) and Tyler Schmidt was third (16:57.2). Cam Klein took fourth (17:24.5) just ahead of Adam Farris (17:46.3), which was good enough to win the men's 30-39 age group.

Joseph Pecora finished sixth (17:48) and Chris Priebe was seventh (17:51.1). Daniel Doden took eighth (17:52.7) and Dustin Leutenegger was ninth (18:03.5). John Grice finished 10th (18:11.7) and Nick Baumann took 11th (18:44.3), which was good enough to win the men's 13-17 age group. Doden finished first in the men's 50-59 division.

Isaac Carr won the boys' 12 and younger race (21:00.2). John Hellenbrand won the men's 40-49 year-old division with a time of 19:05.5 and Larry Stall won the men's 60 and over division (23:11.5).

The top women's overall finisher was Danielle Anton who took 17th (20:09.2). Ashley Butzler finished 19th (20:11) and Cortney Heaslip was 20th (20:13.9).

Zoe Broard, 11, took first in the girls' youngest division with a time of 23:10.7. Molly Marass, 15 took first in the women's 13-17 division and Leslie Sponholz Stelling won the women's 30-39 division (21:40.5). Michelle Benzschawel finished first in the women's 40-49 division with a time of 23:17 and Tina Buvid took first in the women's 50-59 division (22:57.1). Margarita Smith won the women's 60 and older division (28:11.3).

Klein ran away with the 10K title winning by more than 2 minutes. Aaron Nodolf finished second (34:07.9) and Jesse Nodolf was third (35:18.9).

Zach Andreski took fourth (35:23.3) and Dan Buvid was fifth (35:31.6). Holly Nearman, 26, was the top women's finisher, taking sixth place with a time of 35:59.

Brian Butzler finished seventh (37:59) and Erin Kelly was eighth (38:37.1). Bret Bagenschneider took ninth (38:50.3) and Dwight Meyer was 10th (39:06.9).

Nathan Klimt, 9, took the top spot in the boys' 12 and under 10K with a time of (51:46.3). Frantz Stanford won the men's 40 and older division (39:34.2) and Mike Winter finished first in the men's 50-59 division (39:26.9). Whaijen Soo took first place in the men's 60 and older division (48:45).

In the women's 10K, Riley Armstrong won the girls 12 and younger division (1 hour, 1.16.7). Emily Frankowski won the women's 13-17 race with a time of (54.18.7) and Amy Salamon took first in the women's 30-39 division (40:14.8).

Cheryl Baker took the top spot in the women's 40-49 division (44:36.1) and Jenny Staab won the women's 50-59 division (51:23.6).
