MADISON - After 90 minutes, the Monroe girls soccer team and Madison Edgewood played to a scoreless tie on Friday.
"It very much was a defensive battle," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "We are still low numbers with a couple of injuries. The girls played really solid."
Monroe freshman goalie Anna Latimer had 15 saves. O'Neill credited the back four defenders and Latimer for their play and communication. The Crusaders had nine corner kicks, but the Cheesemakers kept them off the scoreboard.
"Anna had some really critical saves," O'Neill said. "She was on and focused the entire match."
Monroe (8-3-3, 0-1-2 Badger South) will host Monona Grove in another conference game at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Honey Creek Park.
