Brodhead, Darlington fall in non-conference

BRODHEAD - The Cardinals could not rally against Fort Atkinson in a non-conference game Friday, falling 6-5.

The Blackhawks used a four-run third inning and a two-run fifth to score their six runs. Brodhead scored one in the first, three in the third, but could only add another in the fifth.

Both teams had six hits and had trouble fielding the ball. Fort Atkinson committed four errors and Brodhead added three.

Erika Stampfli had a rough outing, giving up four earned runs on one hit and four walks while striking out six. On Thursday, Stampfli threw four innings of no-hit baseball.

Freshman Amanda Pickel threw the final five innings, allowing two runs on three hits while getting tagged with the loss.

Tia Collins was 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs and Jana Covert was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two doubles.

Fennimore 11, Darlington 3

DARLINGTON - The Redbirds out-hit the Golden Eagles 8-7, but seven errors cost Darlington a win Friday.

Megan Taylor and Vanessa Riley each had two hits, including a double each, for the Redbirds. Cassie Steiner tripled and took the loss on the hill, allowing four earned runs and five walks in seven innings. Steiner also struck out two. As a team, Darlington struck out just once.
