MONROE - The bottom two hitters in the Monroe softball team's lineup proved a lethal 1-2 punch in the Cheesemakers' 10-5 regular-season finale win over Monona Grove.

Katie Lenz and Hannah Grossen combined to go 5-for-5 to lead the Cheesemakers.

"They were huge," Monroe coach Dale Buvid said.

Monroe (17-2, 11-1 Badger South) came back from a 3-1 deficit by scoring six runs in the fourth inning. The Cheesemakers received four straight RBI-singles from Lenz, Grossen, Kayla Rackow and Maggie Schuttler.

The Cheesemakers, ranked second in the Division 2 Fastpitch Chronicle/ Wisconsin Sports Net state poll, won the Badger South and ended Verona's 11-year run. The Cheesemakers received a No. 1 regional seed for the WIAA Division 2 playoffs and earned a first-round bye. They will play the winner of McFarland and Big Foot on Tuesday, May 20, at Twining Park.
