JUDA - The Black Hawk High School boys basketball team built a double-digit lead in the first half and then fended off Juda for a 47-38 victory Thursday night.

Senior Chase Stietz scored 12 of his game-high 15 points in the first half to help the Warriors (7-7, 4-4 Six Rivers East) gain a 26-15 advantage. He had two of his three

3-pointers before halftime.

Junior Josh Meier scored eight of his 12 points in the first half.

"In the second half, we were able to push the lead to 20 points at one point but Juda made a lot of plays, fought back and cut it to seven at one point," Black Hawk coach Charlie Anderson said.

"Offensively, in the second half, Juda made it hard on us. They did a good job contesting our shots, and we didn't do a good job finishing. But we made enough shots in the first half."

Senior Peter Bouc paced the Panthers with 10 points, all late in the game during Juda's surge. Junior Skyler Stuckey added nine, including one 3-pointer.

"Put ourselves in a hole early, down 20-5 right away," Juda coach James Pickett said.

"Scrapped and fought to get back in it late. ... Just ran out of time."

BARNEVELD - The Comets, who got a season-high 29 points from senior Tyler Dahl, challenged the Six Rivers East-leading Eagles but fell short of the upset.

Albany (9-6, 4-4) built a 36-33 lead by halftime.

"In the first half, we made a ton of shots. We had six 3-pointers," Albany coach Derik Doescher said. "We didn't play scared. We played confident on both ends and were able to have a lead at halftime."

Junior Connor Trow and senior Cole Trapp each had two 3-pointers in the first half and both finished the game with 13 points. Junior Brock Gilkes also had two 3-pointers in the first half.

However, Barneveld (11-4, 8-0) outscored Albany 51-34 in the second half.

"We had a lead of about six points with about 8 minutes left, but we turned the ball over way, way too much, and it got away from us," Doescher said.

Barneveld had three players in double digits. Mike Zouski had 21 points, Matthew Myers 18 and Kavy Fargo 15.

It was the second meeting of the season between the teams. Barneveld won the first game 72-47.
