BALDWIN - The Avalanche Bantam A team competed in the Blackhawk Hockey Bantam A Tourna-ment over the weekend.
In the first game Saturday, the Avalanche fell to Sauk Prairie Flyers 5-1 with Hayden Roth scoring the lone goal on assists by Anika Einbeck and Tessa Janecke.
On Saturday night, the Avalanche shut out the Crystal Lake Yellowjackets 6-0. Payton Stauffacher fired in a goal from the blueline on an assist by Tessa Janecke in the first period. Three Avalanche players found the back of the net in the second period: Cade Janecke, Tessa Janecke and Alyssa Knauf. Earning assists were Hayden Roth (2), Anika Einbeck, Travis Edmunds and Cade Janecke. The Avalanche kept momentum in the third by scoring two more times - Payton Stauffacher with another slapshot and Tessa Janecke on an assist by Luke Kuberski. Goalie Heath Bear earned a shutout patch and recorded 23 saves.
Playing for second place in the tournament on Sunday, the Avalanche lost 8-2 to the reigning state champion Baldwin Blackhawks. Trailing 4-0 going into the third period, the Avalanche lit the lamp with two goals from Cade Janecke and Travis Edmunds. However, the Blackhawks responded with four more goals.
Squirt B 2-1 on weekend
On Saturday, the Avalanche Squirt B team defeated Dodgeville 8-2 at the SLICE Arena.
Scoring the goals were Evan Brendemuehl unassisted; Payton Hathaway assisted by Dylan Lewis; Lewis assisted by Jack Rikkers; Cash Anderson assisted by Hathaway; Brendemuehl assisted by Kyle Theorin and Jack Rikkers; Lewis unassisted; Lewis assisted by Hathaway, and Lewis assisted again by Hathaway. Lewis earned a hat trick and Hathaway earned a playmaker for the game. Xander Obert recorded 19 saves.

Scoring the goals were DJ Rath unassisted, Rath assisted by Dylan Lewis, Hathaway unassisted, Lewis unassisted, Brendemuehl unassisted, Rickkers unassisted, and Hathaway assisted by Cameron Newcomer. Carson Buholzer recorded seven saves.
