Albany boys, girls run to titles

SOUTH WAYNE - Both the Albany High School boys and girls track and field teams won the Black Hawk six-team meet on Tuesday.

The Albany boys outdistanced Pecatonica-Argyle for the title 155-97.5. Monticello placed third (94), and Black Hawk finished last (32).

Monticello junior Max Hoffmaster won both the 100 (12.37) and the 200 (26.11). Monticello senior Billy Spahr won both the 400 (57.14) and the 800 (2:31.83).

Black Hawk senior Caleb Novak won the 1,600 (5:33.27) and was second in the 800 (2:35.96).

Albany junior Connor Trow won the 3,200 (12:29.81) and junior Isaac Halverson took second (12:29.93). Junior Hunter Georgeson won the 300 hurdles (50.81).

Pecatonica-Argyle senior Owen Aerts won both the high jump (5 feet, 8 inches) and the long jump (18-6 1/2).

Pecatonica-Argyle's 400 relay team of Tisch Joseph, Tyler Wyttenbach, Caleb Carr and Aerts won in a time of 50.37. The Vikings' 800 relay team of Aerts, Login Swearingen, Lucas Gilbertson and Wyttenbach won in 1:44.96. Joseph and Swearingen teamed with Joey Bolland and Gilbertson to win the 1,600 relay (4:08.58) over second-place Albany (4:30.92).

Monticello junior Bryss Shover won the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 61⁄4 inches, and Albany senior Andrew Berra won the discus (127-0).

In the girls'meet, Pecatonica-Argyle junior Josie Penniston won both the 100 (13.33) and the 200 (27.96). Monticello freshman Alyssen Noriega took second in both the 100 (13.40) and the 200 (29.37).

The Albany girls ran away with the team title, racking up 201 points to finish well ahead of runner-up Pecatonica-Argyle (113). Monticello took third (71), and Black Hawk was fourth (51).

Pecatonica-Argyle junior teammate Elizabeth Tisch won the 400 (1:05.99) ahead of Monticello freshman Abby Wicker, who took second (1:06.27). Wicker added a second-place finish in the 800 (2:46.84).

Black Hawk sophomore Haley Gertsch won the 800 (2:40.68).

Albany senior Sydnee Woyak won the 1,600 (6:16.98).

Albany junior Ciara Kaderly won the 300 hurdles (1:01.17), and Black Hawk junior Megan Stephens won the 100 hurdles (22.05).

Pecatonica-Argyle's 800 relay team of Adriana Johnson, Sam Mabin, Antonia Beranek and Penniston won in 2:01.21, just ahead of second-place Monticello (2:05.02). Albany freshman Kirsten Oliver teamed with Megan Anderson, Payton Zurfluh and Emma Guenther to win the 1,600 relay (5:03.68). Anderson teamed with Emily Hauri, Zurfluh and Madeline Halverson to win the 3,200 relay (11:57.06).

Oliver also won the long jump (12-9 1/4).

Albany senior Marley Malkow won the shot put (29-6), and freshman teammate Libby Beck won the discus (92-4). Pecatonica-Argyle sophomore Taetum Pagel won the high jump (4-6), and Black Hawk sophomore Brianna Hagen won the triple jump (26-11 1/4).
