Viola Schwend, age 87, of Monroe, died on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was born on August 26, 1932 in Monroe, the daughter of Mynrad and Emma (Gerber) Zentner. Viola and Glenn C. Schwend were united in marriage on October 21, 1949 in Monroe.

She was formerly employed with Frito Lay, Pleasant View Nursing Home, and Swiss Colony through the years, as well as being a great homemaker. She was a member of Monroe United Methodist Church. Viola loved to cook and was known for her excellent pies at every family gathering. She also loved playing cards, especially with her grandson, Douglas during her stay at Pleasant View, going to the casino and dancing to the music of Greg Anderson and his band at Turner Hall. Her greatest joy was spending time with her loving grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Kathy Kundert of Monroe, Charles (Kim) Schwend of Aurora, CO; Kristine (Jeff) Albertson of Monroe; 4 grandchildren, Douglas (Shana Albright) Kundert, Jason (Amy) Kundert, Christopher (Jessie) Kundert, and Gabriel (Olga) Schwend; and 9 great-greatgrandchildren; Michael, Kathryn, Nathan, and Reid Kundert, Easton, Stella, and Brayden Kundert, and Claire and Amelia Schwend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Glenn; brother, James Zentner, and twin sister, Violet Elmer.

Due to Covid-19, private family services will be held to keep family and friends safe. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolences may be sent to the family at: shriner111.com
