Sherrill E. Kelly, age 73 of Monroe, died Monday, February 3, 2020 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was born on November 21, 1946 in Chippewa Falls, WI, the daughter of Chester and Flora (Heward) Knipfer.
In 1955 the family moved to Chicago where Sherrill attended secretarial school. She worked as a legal secretary and later as an executive secretary to a Vice President at International Harvester. She met Thomas Kelly while taking flying lessons at Midway Airport in 1969. They were united in marriage on April 5, 1976. Sherrill worked alongside Thomas for many years at his flight school and aircraft sales company. In 1997 the couple moved to Monroe where Sherrill owned and operated “Uptown Girl”, a women’s clothing store on the northside of the square. Her hobbies included cooking, baking for the farmers market, making jewelry, and travel. She and Tom flew to all contiguous states, Alaska, Canada, and Mexico.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Kelly of Monroe; her brother, Thomas Knipfer; and her aunt, Jean Bingham, both of Burbank, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Carolyn Kitzman.
Sherrill has requested cremation and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net
