Robert E. Severson Sr.
Age 95, of Monroe, formerly of Juda, died on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Monroe Health Services. Bob was born on April 18, 1927 in the Town of York, Green County, the son of Theodore and Amy (Strommen) Severson. He graduated from Blanchardville High School in 1945 and served with the U.S. Army 11th Airborne Division during the occupation of Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1947. Bob was united in marriage to Helen Heyn on November 4, 1950 at the E.U.B. Church in Monroe. The couple farmed in Spring Grove Township from 1951 until 1973. He was a long time member of Zion United Methodist Church where he served as head trustee and ushered for many services and funerals. Bob also served as Green County Clerk from 1976 until 1989, was a member of Monroe American Legion Post #84 and the Stateline Square dancers. Bob enjoyed travelling with Helen, card club, breakfasts with his coffee clutch group, helping his son, Tom, on the farm, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by four children, Robert (Mary) Severson Jr. of Juda, Susan (Mike) Aurand of Freeport, IL, John (Leanne) Severson of Monroe, and Thomas (Vicki) Severson of Juda; six grandsons; 17 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Dave (Patra) Smith of Monroe; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen, on March 19, 2009; five brothers and four sisters.Memorial services will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, with Reverend Kelly Jahn officiating. Inurnment will follow in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Juda. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
