Harvey E. Loeffel, age 93, of Monroe, died at his home on Wednesday, November 23, 2022. Harvey was born on May 25, 1929, in Monroe, the last surviving child of ten born to John J. and Martha (Golz) Loeffel. He graduated from Monticello High School and served in Germany with the U.S. Army 2nd Armored Division from 1950 -1952.  He was united in marriage to Susan Hamilton on January 25, 1953 at the Monroe E.U.B. Church. Harvey was a partner in Kundert-Loeffel Shoe Store on the East side of Monroe’s square from 1960 until retiring in 1993.

Harvey was a good athlete and enjoyed playing baseball and golf. He played first base for the Monroe Huber Brewers semi-pro baseball team that consisted of players from Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa. He was a long time member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, was active in the Monroe Jaycees, and served on the Monroe Chamber of Commerce and Monroe Park and Recreation boards.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Susan Loeffel of Monroe; three children, Mark (Lori) Loeffel of Siesta Key, FL, Thomas Loeffel of Dallas, TX, Anne (Dave) Morey of Bluffton, SC; four grandchildren, Sarah Loeffel, Adam and Eric Loeffel, Caroline Morey; two great grandchildren, Savannah and Kendall; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and six sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, with Rev. Jeffrey Meyer officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established in Harvey’s name for Monroe United Methodist Church and Monroe Parks and Recreation. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net
