Delbert Lee Neuenschwander, 82, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020. He was born Oct. 8, 1937, in Monroe, WI, the son of Albert C. Neuenschwander and Rosa (Daley) Neuenschwander. He was baptized and confirmed in St. John's United Church of Christ. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1955 and attended UW Farm Short Course in the fall of 1955 and spring of 1956 in Madison.

He enlisted in the US Army in 1956, serving 2 years of active duty (including 16 months in Korea) and 4 years in the US Army Reserve.

Delbert married Marilyn Ann Klessinger in St. John's United Church of Christ on Sept. 4, 1960. He was a hard-working farmer and loving and supportive husband and father. Family always came first.

He worked for the Green County Farm Bureau Service Station, Ivan Boyer Gas and later Norgas from 1960 to 1964. Following the death of his father, Delbert took over the family farm with his mother, Rosa. He quit farming in 1988 due to the drought and went to work at Monroe Cheese Corporation in Monticello until 2005 when he retired.

Delbert loved to sing and was a member of the Green County Barbershop Chorus for 40 years. He served many years as the director of the Green County Cheese Co-op and served 2 years on the Green County Board from 1980 to 1982. He was a member of the Monroe Moose Lodge and St. John's United Church of Christ. Delbert and Marilyn enjoyed playing cards with their close friends and were members of card club for numerous years. They also enjoyed dancing and Delbert particularly enjoyed dancing the Fox Trot.

Delbert's family enjoyed many summer vacations between first and second-crop hay. Two of their favorite vacation destinations were the Wisconsin Dells and Branson, MO. Delbert and Marilyn continued to make trips to Branson long after their children were grown. They enjoyed browsing through antique shops along the way. Many family memories were made on their yearly vacations.

In death, he leaves his loving wife, Marilyn, to whom he was married for 59 years. He also is survived by his three children, Ronald John and Daren Delbert, both of Monroe; and LuAnn Clare Neuenschwander of Shawano, WI; his brother, Harold Neuenschwander; a sister, Reva (Robert) Chambers; and sister-in-law, Clareda Neuenschwander. He is also survived by numerous grandcats, whom Marilyn and he enjoyed visiting and playing with over the years.

Delbert was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Virgil Neuenschwander; nephew, David Neuenschwander; niece, Lori Ann Chambers; great-nephew, Matthew Hoover, sister-in-law, Nellie (Harold) Neuenschwander, and brother-in-law, Joseph Klessinger.

Funeral service will be held at 12PM Noon on Saturday, Feb. 22, at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10AM to noon, and the memorial service will follow at noon. The Rev. Todd Hackman will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in his name to the Green County Humane Society, Green County Veteran’s Memorial Park, or the Friends of Pleasant View, all in Monroe.
