MONROE - With fewer than two months until the Green County Humane Society's (GCHS) annual meeting, two candidates have come forward to challenge four incumbents for board positions.

The annual meeting is from 6 to 8 p.m. May 7 at Ludlow Mansion. All humane society members can attend, and all are able to vote in the election.

GCHS president Paul Barrett, vice president Mary Jane Grenzow, secretary Heidi Treuthardt, and treasurer Chris Soukup are up for election. All four candidates have announced they will seek another three-year term.

Cara Miller, Madison, and Kathryn Kubik, Freeport, have announced their intentions to run for two of the positions. They don't have to announce which position they are seeking. The board will convene after the election at the annual meeting to select board officers.

People interested in running for the board can take out nomination papers until April 23. Each candidate needs 20 signatures from members. Return papers to Paul Barrett, P.O. Box 54, Monroe, WI 53566. More information is available by calling Barrett at 328-4420.

The board also talked during its meeting Wednesday about its St. Patrick's Day parade event planned for Tuesday, March 17.

People can dress up their pet, or borrow a shelter dog, for a chance to win cash prizes. Prizes of $100 for first place, $50 for second and $25 for third will be award in the Minhas parking lot immediately following the parade.

The parade begins at 5:17 p.m. and goes around the Square in Monroe.

A fundraiser for the shelter continues at The Roadhouse, 1001 30th St. There will be music from 7 to 11 p.m. and a percentage of all meals will benefit GCHS.

Barrett reported the shelter took in about $32,000 in February and spent about $16,000. So far this year, the shelter has a profit of about $9,400.
