MONROE - The Green County Sheriff's Department will host its awards ceremony at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27 at the historic courthouse downtown.
The ceremony will honor excellence in law enforcement and commitment to service.
Even though the ceremony is the first of its kind, retiring Green County Sheriff Jeff Skatrud is hoping it will be an annual event.
"We put a committee together earlier this year to compile policies and nominations, and I wanted to do that before I am done," Skatrud said. "It's new and I hope that it will be an annual event, but that will be up to the next Sheriff."
The event is open to the pubic.
