MONROE - A few months ago, for most Green Bay Packers fans, it would have seemed impossible to imagine anyone but Brett Favre starting for the Green and Gold.

But after wins over the Minnesota Vikings and the Detroit Lions, Packers fans have taken Aaron Rodgers to heart and are happy with his performance on the field.

Richard Barry, Monroe, is a Favre fan but he's not lamenting the team's decision to sever ties with a legendary quarterback.

"When Favre retired I was disappointed but I have confidence in the Packers," Barry said.

Still, Barry admitted, he is a little surprised Rodgers is playing so well.

Rodgers is second in the National Football Conference in passing statistics. He's completed 42 of 60 passes for 506 yards and four touchdowns. He hasn't thrown an interception this season.

C.J. Kindschi, Monroe, said the Packers are a "solid team" and have a chance of making the playoffs.

"I think they were ready for Favre to retire," he said.

Kindschi said he was confident Rodgers was ready to take over as quarterback.

Courtney Daubert, Monroe, said there was a lot of pressure on Rodgers when the season started.

"He had some pretty big shoes to fill and so far he's filled them," Daubert said.

Debbie Campbell, a New Jersey resident, said Rodgers always played well when he had his chances in the past, so it only makes sense he would do well now.

"How can you not be happy with how he's played," she asked.

She said the situation in Green Bay during the month of August was like watching a divorce.

"You just want everyone to move on and be happy," she said.

Still, not everyone is impressed with Rodgers - or the Packers.

One man, who described himself as a fan of any team except for Green Bay, downplayed Rodgers' first two games.

"Who couldn't beat the Vikings and the Lions," he laughed.
