MONROE - A quiet Friday afternoon turned out to be anything but on Monroe’s west side. At 2:33 p.m. on Feb. 17, Monroe Police investigated a traffic accident in the 800 block of Wis. 69, with reported minor injuries, which culminated from a law enforcement pursuit of a vehicle from Illinois.
The investigation indicated that a vehicle being pursued by Stephenson County, Ill., Sheriff’s Office deputies and Green County Sheriff’s Office deputies, on Wis. 69 from Illinois, struck another vehicle that had turned onto Wis. 69. That vehicle, operated by a 73-year-old Monroe man, sustained disabling damages, and the operator received non-life threatening injuries. He declined medical transport.
The pursued vehicle then left the roadway into an adjacent parking lot, and then eventually collided with a traffic signal post, where it stopped with disabling injuries. The traffic signal received disabling damages also.
The two occupants of the pursued vehicle then fled on foot, but were captured nearby. Both reported minor injuries and were transported by EMS. The driver of the pursued vehicle was identified as Michael Jackson, Jr., (37), Dolton, Ill. The passenger was also a 39-year-old Dolton, Ill. male. Both were arrested as part of the initial investigation and pursuit.
Jackson was charged by Monroe Police with operating without a valid driver’s license, hit and run causing injury and reckless driving as part of the accident investigation.
Any other charges as part of the other investigation will be handled by those agencies, said Fred Kelley, Monroe Police Chief.
