MONROE - Monroe resident Matt Peters will perform a recital of marimba music from around the world at 4 p.m. Sept. 28 at Monroe Theatre Guild, 910 16th Ave.
Peters will be joined by friends from Monroe and the surrounding area in a performance featuring Minoru Miki's "Marimiba Spiritual" for marimba and three drummers. The program also includes music by Keiko Abe, Isaac Albeniz, J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Andy Harnsberger, Libby Larson and Ney Rosauro.
After the performance, audience members can try out the marimba, and speak to Peters and the other musicians.
Peters grew up in Monroe in the 1980s and went on to earn several degrees in music education and performance. He has performed as a marimbist, percussionist and drummer throughout the United States for more than 15 years. He has also performed internationally in Paris, Mexico City and Prague.
The free program is open to the public. Free will donations will go to support of Monroe Theatre Guild.
