BRODHEAD - A Stoughton man was charged with sexual assault of a child stemming from events in the Brodhead area over a five-month period.
According to police records, Gage Milton White, 19, faces Class C felony charges of second-degree sexual assault of a child, the use of a computer to facilitate a child sex crime, repeated sexual assault of a child and exposing a child to harmful material. He also faces two misdemeanor counts of exposing genitals to a child and sexual intercourse with a child over the age of 16.
The charges were filed in Green County Circuit Court Tuesday.
White was charged after he began a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl at her residence in October. The pair met on social media site Instagram before exchanging messages via the app Snapchat, meeting on Oct. 6 at the girl's residence near Brodhead.
According to police records, upon arriving, the child's parents talked to White about the age difference between the two and White assured them the pair were just dating. That same day, which was the first time the two met in person, the girl asked White if he just wanted sex, to which he responded that he wanted a relationship, but if they were going to be in a relationship, he expected sex. The two then had sex at the girl's residence.
In an interview with Stoughton Police, White admitted to knowing the girl's age before meeting her at the end of October.
The girl's mother said in an interview with a Green County officer in May that White would visit two to four times each week. The girl told police each visit involved sexual contact until the end of April, when her mother discovered the sexual nature of the relationship. The mother also stated that during the time White and her daughter were involved, White attempted to dictate what the girl wore and told her not to talk to any other males, including her teachers, and repeatedly called her work place to check on her.
According to one of her friends, White spent the duration of a month pressuring the girl into having sex with both him and one of his friends at a residence in Stoughton.
White is scheduled for court on Oct. 2. His maximum possible sentence is 125 years in prison, fines up to $330,000, or both.
