MONROE - The Green County Law Enforcement Administrators' Association (GCLEAA) recently awarded two officers for outstanding work.
New Glarus Police officer Jeffrey W. Sturdevant received an "Officer of the Year" award for his work in 2007. That included rescuing a trapped worker during a fire at Risley Pellet Solutions in February 2007, investigating more cases than any other officer in the county and the highest number of investigations leading to felony charges.
New Glarus Police Chief Steve Allbaugh nominated Sturdevant for the award.
Sturdevant has been with the department for about six years and promoted to sergeant in 2004.
Green County Sheriff's Department dispatcher Laura Steiner received the "Employee of the Year" award.
Green County Sheriff Randy Roderick nominated Steiner for her actions during the arrest of two burglary suspects in January.
Steiner was in constant communication with homeowner Susan Johnson, who followed the two suspects after she saw them backing out of her garage.
Johnson followed the two men for about 12 miles before Rock County Sheriff Department deputies caught them.
Steiner continually talked to Johnson to determine her location; she also alerted deputies as to the location of the two men.
Roderick said Steiner helped Johnson stay calm and also advised her against getting too close to the vehicle the men were driving.
Steiner has worked at the Green County Sheriff's Department since 1982.
The GCLEAA has recognized an employee of the year for the past three years and this year extended the award to recognize law enforcement officers.
