MONROE - Katie Armiger, along with her band, will showcase her powerful vocals and skillful songwriting at a show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th St.

Armiger recently burst onto the country music scene, and at the ripe age of 21 the singer-songwriter has accomplished more during her few years as a recording artist than most people twice her age.

Born in Houston, Texas, Armiger was singing before she could walk and by age ten she was already adept at connecting with her thoughts, and had begun writing poems and songs in her journal. At 14, she entered Houston's Best Country Singer competition, starting out in the junior division, and at the end of the eight-week contest she walked away with the grand prize and a shot at recording a two-song demo with Nashville producer Mark Oliverius. The demo deal soon blossomed into a full-scale album project, and Armiger began splitting her time between Nashville and Houston. A powerful singer with a voice that reaches beyond her years, Armiger also showed a talent for writing songs, and she wrote or co-wrote seven of the eleven songs on her debut album.

"I just feel like when you're writing and living life and going on tour, you grow," Armiger said. "When you grow, you become more comfortable in your skin and your likes and dislikes, and that's what helps you become more confident. When you as a person become more confident, I think it definitely translates into songwriting, because songwriting is an expression of self."

That self-confidence is apparent, as Armiger was only 16 years old when her self-titled album was released in 2007.

In 2009 her single titled "Kiss Me Now" hit the Top 40 on the Billboard Indicator Chart, and her song "Trail of Lies" landed in the Top 20 on Music Row, setting a record as the Highest Charting Independent Female Artist. From her forthcoming studio album, the latest single "Better In A Black Dress" marks her highest chart debut landing at #54 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart upon release. The sassy up-tempo single, which Katie co-wrote with well-known Nashville songwriter Blair Daly, has been winning over radio and fans alike, making it the fastest growing single of her career. She performed the song on the Aug. 6 episode of the ABC series, "Bachelor Pad."

In addition to her success as a recording artist, Armiger was named the #1 Hottest Bachelorette by Country Music Weekly two years in a row.

Through November, Katie is currently out on her "Get Smart Tour" sponsored by Great American Country with select opening dates for some of country music's biggest names including Dierks Bentley, Eli Young Band and Josh Turner.

Reserved seat tickets for Katie Armiger are $25, $20, and $10 for students 18 years of age and under. Tickets may be purchased in person at the box office, 1315 11th St.; by calling the Monroe Arts Center at (608) 325-5700 or (888) 596-1249; or online at www.monroeartscenter.com.
