MONROE - A 56-year-old rural Washington township man was killed Wednesday when a skid loader overturned.

At about 3:48 p.m., the Green County Sheriff's Department was notified of a medical emergency at W5828 Robey Road in Washington township, according to Green County Sheriff Randy Roderick.

After arriving on the scene and discovering the accident, an investigation revealed Kirk A. Krier, 56, who lived at that address, had been operating a skid loader, while performing excavation work. The skid loader apparently lost traction, rolled down a soil embankment and overturned. The skid loader was not equipped with a safety belt or protective cage and Krier was pinned underneath.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Chief Deputy Coroner Kris Hasse.

Green County EMS, Monticello Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded to the incident.
