MONROE — Brittney Rindy, Monroe City Administrator, is apologizing for her actions after news broke that she was charged with an operating while intoxicated in Washington County.

The arrest and citation for OWI, Rindy’s first such charge, occurred on Aug. 25 in the county, which sits just north of Milwaukee. Rindy started her new job with the city on July 15.

Rindy declined to provide details of the arrest, but in a statement said she regretted the incident and has learned from it.

“I accept full responsibility and acknowledge the significance of my error in judgment,” she said. “I have reflected on this hard life lesson and apologize to my family, staff and community.”

Monroe Mayor Donna Douglas said she supports Rindy and that the administrator is working to put her legal issues behind her to lead the city forward.

“It took me by surprise,” Douglas said. “To me, it’s unfortunate. I’m not one to make excuses — we’re all humans. As mayor of Monroe, I just want to make sure she’s able to do her job. I don’t think it’s affected how she does her job at all. I think she’s done an awesome job so far, actually.”

Douglas said she sees the issue as a private matter and was pleased with Rindy’s openness.

“This is not a city concern, because she’s doing her job very well. She has taken responsibility for her actions. She told all of the alders,” Douglas said.

Rindy first came to Monroe from Slinger in 2010 right out of college. Prior to becoming the Clerk/Treasurer in 2019, she worked for Monroe Clinic/SMS Health and Meriter Orthopedics.

“I remain dedicated to do my best for my family and the city,” she said.

According to court records, the case against her in Washington County was adjudicated on Oct. 6. She was fined over $811. Rindy has no record of any other arrests and has no other criminal cases in Wisconsin, court records indicate.
