Veronica L. Kelly, age 92 of Monroe, formerly of Chicago, died Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe.
Veronica was born October 31, 1915 in Chicago, the daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Crokin) Carlin. She attended Rosary College in River Forest, Illinois and married George F. Kelly on September 6, 1941 in Oak Park, IL. Veronica was a life long Chicago resident and following the death of her husband on December 17, 1971 she worked as an insurance underwriter and later volunteered at Oak Park Hospital for several years.
In 2003, she moved to Monroe where she has resided at Twining Valley. Mrs. Kelly was a long time member of St. Giles Catholic Church in Oak Park and more recently St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe.
Survivors include: four sons, Thomas (Sherrill) Kelly of Monroe, Jerry (Mavourneen) Kelly of Fitchburg, WI, Michael (Kathleen) Kelly of Elmhurst, IL, and Patrick (Laureen) Kelly of Seattle, WA; six grandchildren, Kevin, Brian, Paul, Carolyn, John, and Deanta; and a great-grandson, Aidan Gunn.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Kelly; a granddaughter, Colleen Kelly; and a brother, Francis Carlin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2008, at St. Victor Catholic Church with Monsignor Thomas Campion officiating. Interment will be in Mount Caramel Cemetery, Hillside, IL. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Veronica's name for the Apostolate to the Handicapped. The NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, is assisting the family.
