Steven A. Christen, age 57 of Monroe, died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born November 27, 1950 in Monroe, the son of Herman Jr. and Patricia (Stauffacher) Christen. Steve spent time as a young man studying at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and was very proud of his past experiences working as a cheesemaker. In more recent years Steve greatly valued his work at Greenco Industries and enjoyed spending time with friends, watching movies from his prolific DVD collection and participating in activities through the Apostolate to the Handicapped.
Survivors include his mother, Patricia Christen of Maitland, FL; a brother, Kent Christen of Livermore, CO; two sisters, Cindi Runkle of New Glarus and Shelly Latta of Orlando, FL; and close friends, Neal Minogue and family of Monroe. He was preceded in death by his father in 1983.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2008, at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe. Monsignor Thomas Campion, Director of the Apostolate to the Handicapped, will officiate. There will be no visitation. A picnic celebration in honor of Steve's life will be held from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday at the Twining Park North shelter house. Steve was an intelligent, jolly soul who was so beloved by those who knew him. He will be missed immensely.
