Sarah Emma Hartwig, 91, of Monroe passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at the Monroe Manor. She was born on November 18, 1926 in Battleground, IN, the daughter of William and Hazel (Stark) Brummett.
Sarah and Emil Leutenegger were united in marriage in 1945, in Lafayette, IN; she later married Julius Hartwig in 1970, in Delphi, IN.
She was employed at Swiss Colony.
Sarah was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed playing cards and gambling. In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing at Turner Hall and traveling to visit relatives.
She is survived by her children: Ruth Gunderson of Monroe, Bill (Peg) Leutenegger of Brodhead, Myron Leutenegger of Monroe, Larry (Julie) Leutenegger of Holidaysberg, PA; Joy (Mike) Wandfluh of Monroe, Mona (Tom) Harmon of Luling, TX; Velvet (Mike) Voegeli of Monroe, Dawn (Gary) Schmid of Monroe; sisters: Margaret Coggins and Sally Hoshaw of Lafayette, IN; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands; 5 brothers and 3 sisters; and a grandchild, Jerry Thompson.
Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 16, 2018 at SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE funeral home 1455 Mansion Dr., and 18th Ave. in Monroe, with Rev. Paul Watkin officiating.
