Joyce Marie (Vogel) Statz, age 69, of Monroe, passed away surrounded by her family after a short and hard fought battle with cancer on Friday, November 25, 2016, at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. She was born on June 26, 1947 to Leonard and Ethel (Frey) Vogel in Janesville. Joyce always spoke fondly of her days attending the Red Brick, one room school house in Footville. She graduated from Orfordville Parkview High School in 1965.
Joyce married Bernard Statz in Madison on March 20, 1971. They farmed in Dayton, WI before purchasing a farm and moving to Sylvester Township in 1980. Joyce was an avid vegetable and flower gardener and enjoyed her fruit trees, grape vines, asparagus beds and house plants. She and Bernie were members of their monthly "card club" since 1973. They spent a lot of their retirement on bus trips traveling across the U.S. and Canada and enjoying their grandchildren. Their most recent trip was to Alaska. They returned home two weeks before Joyce learned about her illness. Joyce was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe. She loved corresponding with and visiting relatives in Germany and has had a pen pal in France since she was in high school.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Bernie of Monroe; daughters, Gayla (Jeff) Schultz of Belleville, Andrea (John) Statz Lauper of Stitzer, WI, and Jennifer (Todd) Trader of Arpin, WI; seven grandchildren, Derek and Nikole Schultz, Josie, Adelle and Liezl Statz Lauper and Delia and Kate Trader; sister, Carol Ayen of Janesville; brothers-in-law, Patrick (Joann) Statz, Roman (Bea) Statz, Herbert (Eileen) Statz, Lloyd (Terry) Statz and Dennis (Bonnie) Statz; sisters-in-law, Clara (Larry) Fairfax, Esther (Gerry) Flakas, Therese (Michael) Vezeridis and Rosetta (George) Statz; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers-in-law, Victor, Felix and Frank Statz.
