Gail M. Wichelt, age 67 of Evansville, formerly of Monroe, died Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the Heights Assisted Living in Evansville following a ten-month battle with brain cancer. Gail was born on January 8, 1950 in Stoughton, the daughter of Ervin and Agnes (Ihle) Halvorson. She graduated from Stoughton High School in 1968 and married LaVerne K. Wichelt on June 14, 1969. Gail was employed at K-Mart for 25 years in the Monroe and Madison stores. Following her retirement, Gail and LaVerne enjoyed buying and selling antiques and collectibles. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe and loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their various activities. She had an eye for decorating and detail and liked to visit the slot machines at area casinos.

Gail is survived by her husband of 48 years, LaVerne Wichelt of Evansville; two daughters, Nicole Stephenson (fiance Mark Meives) of Barneveld, Shawna March (fiance David VanDerHaegen) of Janesville; five grandchildren, Josh and Emma Stephenson, Zach Simonson, Spencer and Riley March; and her mother-in-law, Betty Wichelt of Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, James; and father-in-law, Kenneth Wichelt.

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at 11:30 a.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Rev. Richard Thickpenny officiating. Inurnment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service.
