Felonies
Marcus Jordan Phiffer, 18, Brodhead, was charged Nov. 18 with felony counts of substantial battery and second-degree recklessly endangering safety and misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and bail jumping, stemming from an incident Nov. 10 in the 500 block of 1st Center Avenue in Brodhead. Court records indicate Phiffer attacked a man, kicking him and hitting him in the head while wearing brass knuckles and threatening to kill him. The man sustained a concussion, broken teeth and gashes that had to be stapled shut. A warrant is issued for Phiffer's arrest.
Misdemeanors
Michael B. Bowling, 17, Monroe, was charged Nov. 8 with a Class A misdemeanor count of battery and a Class B misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, stemming from an incident at his home Oct. 21. Court records indicate he yelled and swore at his mother's boyfriend, punched him in the nose and face and then picked up a hammer and threatened to "bust" him in the head with it. Not guilty pleas have been entered to both charges. Bowling's signature bond is set at $1,000 with the condition that he have no violent or abusive contact with the alleged victim. A pre-trial conference is set for Jan. 7.
