BRODHEAD - Chester W. Lewis, age 89, of Brodhead, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Mercy Hospital, Janesville. He was born on September 15, 1918 in Western, NE, the son of Glen and Rosa (Kugel) Lewis. His first marriage was to Bertha Cleveland. He then married Bonnie Nolty on May 3, 1975.
Chet had worked for General Motors for 22 years as an inspector. He started his refrigeration and air conditioning service to the Brodhead area in 1974 and taught refrigeration repair at Blackhawk Tech. for 4 years. Chet served in the US Army, loved helping people, especially the elderly, and loved cats.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; two daughters, Beverly Woodstock, Janesville, Donna (Stephan) Appleman, Oconto Falls, WI; six step-children, Roger (Kenlyn) Walmer, Monticello, Carole (Richard) Parmer, Janesville, Fred (Jane) Walmer, Milton, Kathy (Dennis) Goecks and Raymond (Julie) Walmer, both of Juda, Marcia (Agara) Reddy, Columbia, MO; two sisters, Ethel Jerka and Doris Crayton, both of Lincoln, NE; a grandson, Daniel Kundert; a great-grandson, Christian Kundert; and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2008, at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, WI, with Rev. Ronald E. Massen officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to Hospice Care Inc. of Janesville or the Humane Society of Green or Rock County.
