Carol J. Marty, 87, formerly of Monticello and Monroe, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, at The New Glarus Home. She was born on March 7, 1930, to Alvin and Hilda (Matzke) Priewe in Monroe. She was a 1948 graduate of Monroe High School. Carol worked at The Monroe Clinic until her marriage to Henry J. Marty on Jan. 20, 1952, in Monroe. They then farmed together on the Marty family farm in Mt. Pleasant Township until they retired in 1984 and moved to Monroe.
Carol was a member of Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello. She enjoyed bowling, gardening and baking pies and was an avid crafter, collector, seamstress, and quilter, having made more than 25 beautiful quilts for her family's special life events. Through the years, she loved watching her children and grandchildren in their varied activities. Her love of the piano has extended through three generations.
She is survived by her five children: Barbara (Ronald) Smith of Monticello, Thomas (Nancy) Marty of New Glarus, James (Linda) Marty of Monticello, JoAnn (Fred) Cruse of New Glarus, and Sharon (Ray) Horstmeier of Brodhead; 13 grandchildren: Michelle (Matt) Brukwicki, Tracy (Chad) Spotts, Brian Smith, Michael (Angela) Marty, Andrew Marty, Jeff (Elizabeth) Lamb, Jacob, Lucas and Logan Marty, Anna and Max Cruse, Tyler (Kerrie) Brugger and Ryan (Marcie) Brugger; 17 great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Willis (Beverly) Marty of Pasco, WA, and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Kenneth Priewe, sister Marilyn Babler and infant sister Elaine Priewe.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, at Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home, Monroe, with Reverend Lance Smith officiating. A visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
A memorial fund is being established.
